MANAWA WHENUA

Māramatanga: From the bowels of the earth, the unfailing spring of water. A metaphor for never-ending wellspring of water, the water table beneath the earth.

Ngā Āhuatanga: It encompasses the whole environment– the whenua, maunga, ngahere, awa, moana - with all its life forms from birds, fishes, insects, and animals to the people of the land, the tangata whenua and mana whenua, the ahikāroa, guardians of the lands handed down to them from their ancestors as taonga for the future generations.

Hapori: This Manawa is for those interested in environmental concerns – the built and natural environments; space design and planning; architecture; wai (water); environmental infrastructure etc, landscape design and approaches to town and city planning.
