Expertise
Sarah has a background in non-profit management and academia. Her PhD and subsequent publications examine social and cultural community responses to crisis events. Sarah’s current research addresses impacts of climate change to better understand how emergency services and maternity practitioners can be adaptive and responsive to the needs of pregnant women and their whānau during a crisis event. This research explores new insights into the intersections of maternity care services and crisis events, whilst highlighting any areas of inequity.
Sarah’s specialty knowledge in the community and vulnerable crisis response sector, has resulted in invitations from The Solomon Islands Government to lead the community crisis response on Rennell Island following the 2019 MV Solomon Trader oil spill, addressing the Senior Leadership Team at The Federation of Red Cross International & Red Cresent Societies in Italy, and presenting to industry and academic conferences around the world.
